to read or not to read, that’s not the question

July 24th, 2005

The more I read the more confused I am, the more hypocrite I become. In life we have principles that we hold. The norms that has formed the corridor for us in doing things. It can be from our family values, religion, social norms etc etc. We are binded to it. Although there’s no such punishment we will get if we break it, we will surely follow the unwritten rules.

Most of the times the reason why you hold the principles is because you are told or you are taught or your society requires you to do so. You hold it so strong and believe it so much you are sure there is no way that you can break it…until you are contested…until you are dropped in such a situation that makes you feel that you are pushed to the corner. Friends, you never know how strong you are until you get punched on your stomach….. you never know how patient you are until you get slapped on your face….you never know how weak you are until you’re unconsciuously carried away and suddenly find yourself in that corner. And it makes you think HARD.

When you read a book –especially a really really good one—you can be easily carried away. You cry, you smile, you laugh, you’re angry….but you have to realize that it is just a book. When the story finally ends and you turn the last page then you realize that it is not real. Suddenly you are awaken by the reality slap. Heyyy, waaake uuuuppp!!!!

Apparently, reading a book is not as easy as it seems, yes? Then what can we do? Well I suggest, first, keep on reading –especially if it’s a worth reading book and you believe that there will be things that can do you good…like my friend said— with full…I mean FULL consciousness that finally it will end. You will cry, you will smile, you will laugh but you will not be carried away. Well, actually, you can’t let yourself be carried away…out of the corridor. Second, be prepared. You’re a human being…you can be slipped on the way. So, always keep a bandage ;D. Third, don’t sweat and take it easy (yes, I know…it’s easier to say than to do). Remember, reading is fun and help government’s program (hihihi…). Fourth, remember your mom’s face (or your sister’s…heheheh)…if you’re carried away.
